Firstly, we'll present the purpose and its origins, and secondly we will
go on with our objectives and our schedule.

1. Purpose :

	Development of a school web site prototype

	More precisely, a specification of a on-line communication system
	between primary and nursery schools. This specification
	will use an R.A.D approach (Rapid Application Developement)

	Why using the R.A.D ?
	=> It was chosen after the establishment of the following observations :
	- No knowledge about computer science of the teaching profession
	- Needs hardly definable 
	=> Need for another specification than the classic one.

2. Project's origins :

	And now we're going to talk about the origins of the project... 
 
 	Above all, the project was born from a real need.
 
	It began during a talk with a headmaster. 
	This revealed that the National Education urges schools to use the net, 
	but it actually furnishes no help to materialize it.  
   	as it isn't still prepared to follow the passage to the internet 

	From that moment, we thought it would be interesting to work on it 
   	and thus to use our knowledges of the internet and its new technologies.
 
	This project is realized in cooperation with two schools of Maromme in the suburbs of Rouen) : 
		- A primary school : "Ecole Jules Ferry", in contact with Mr Legall 
		- A nursery school : "Ecole Paul Fort", in contact with Miss Demailly 
 
	These two schools will be pilot sites for this project. 
 
	Indeed we think that internet and its technologies could help schools in many ways 
	as we're going to demonstrate now.

3. Objectives :

	The goal is simple : to illustrate clearly what the
	internet can provide to primary schools and nursery
	schools with a web site and different applications.

	The researchs are made in three spheres :
	- Internet as an information medium (hyper-text) : classic web site, school journal
	- Internet as an educational tool : virtual black board, puzzle
	- Internet as a communication tool : real time chatting, e-mail  
	

	Today the Net is the state-of-the-art information medium but not only.
	That's what we want to show by using all the net features.

	Educational aspect will be developped according to the teachers' needs.
	To do it, a collaboration will be established in order to share knowledges and ideas

		
	As the net is also a fabulous communication tool, the interest
	of the project consists in gathering many schools in order to 
	create a community by implementing, among other things :
	- a correspondence between pupils thanks to a simplified
	mail-client, suited to the children
	- a correspondence between schools thanks to the "livre d'or", forum...

	This will be tested between the 2 schools

	The internet also could make easier the relationships
	between the schools of twin towns, and to allow parents
	to get some news of their children during (transplanted)
	classes (schools journeys)

			
	The aim is not to provide THE school web site but to study and show
	what is possible with the net and how to do it (technological choices...)

4. Schedule :

	Already done : 
	- The contact was established with the reprensentatives of the schools involved. 
	- Some ideas were found with the teachers. 
	- The Inspection Académique was informed and gave its agreement. 
	 
	To do : 
	- To make a faisability study of the wishes of the teachers. 
	- To develop a simple game prototype as a work basis. 
	- To have a brainstorm in order to improve it. 
	- To get lessons (informations) from it to make the development of 
	the next applications easier. 
	 
	We must keep in mind that : 
	- To keep contact with schools. 
	- Users will be very young (ergonomics very important). 
	- The developed applications must be easily customizable by teachers.
